N.S. Tree for Boston set to shine

A white spruce from Nova Scotia is ready to dazzle the City of Boston.

The 45-foot evergreen from Antigonish County will be lit up during a celebration on the Boston Common Thursday evening.

This year’s Tree for Boston was donated by Hugh and Liz Ryan who have watched the tree grow for 30 years on their property in Mattie Settlement.

For more than 50 years, Nova Scotia has been sending trees to thank the city for its help during the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

Guests from the province will also attend Boston’s annual tree lighting.

This year’s entertainment includes Halifax pop singer-songwriter Ria Mae and Mi’kmaq folk artist and fiddler Morgan Toney.
