N.B. man charged in Colchester County double homicide

A New Brunswick man has been charged with murdering two people in Colchester County, N.S.

The RCMP say they found the man’s vehicle outside of an apartment building in Campbellton on Wednesday.

Ronald Albert Canuel, 35, faces two charges of second degree murder.

On Dec. 19, a 27-year-old man from Truro and a 25-year-old from Pictou Landing First Nation, were taken to a hospital with stab wounds.

By Dec. 21, the 25-year-old was found unresponsive at a home on Vincent Drive in Upper Onslow. He died at the scene.

The next day, the 27-year-old man also went into “medical distress” at a home on Lavinia Drive in Truro. He also died at the scene.

On Dec. 23, the Medical Examiner Service ruled that they both died of their stab wounds, which means police were now dealing with a double homicide.

Canuel remains in custody and will appear later in Truro Provincial Court.
