New vitals carts to enhance patient care at South Shore Regional Hospital

The medical surgical unit at South Shore Regional Hospital recently enhanced its patient care capabilities with the addition of three new vitals carts. These carts were purchased through a generous $15,000 donation from the South Shore Regional Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer-run organization dedicated to supporting the hospital and community groups.

The vitals carts integrate essential monitoring tools, such as thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, oxygen saturation monitors, and heart rate monitors, into a single, easy-to-access unit. This design improves efficiency by reducing the need for nurses to gather separate pieces of equipment for patient assessments.

Mary Crouse, Health Services Manager for the ICU and Medical Surgical Unit, emphasized the significance of these new additions: “The vitals carts are a game changer for our nurses. Instead of running around to collect different devices, everything they need is in one place. This not only saves time but also enhances our ability to provide high-quality care.”

In addition to improving workflow, the carts allow for more continuous patient monitoring, especially in situations where frequent checks are necessary, such as adjusting oxygen levels. “With these carts, we can monitor vital signs continuously, which greatly benefits patient care,” Crouse noted.

The Auxiliary’s donation has made a substantial difference in the daily operations of the med-surg unit, and there’s always a need for more equipment to further improve efficiency and patient care.

The carts will also be utilized in units outside of the surgical unit as needed, allowing nurses to work more efficiently throughout the hospital.
