Houston calls out Halifax Water for lack of transparency after boil order

The premier is calling out Halifax Water for a lack of transparency.

On Tuesday morning, a power failure let some unchlorinated water into the system for about 30 minutes.

The utility had a similar issue in July, which caused a boil order for about two days.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston also pointed out that the utility stopped putting fluoride in water at two facilities for more than a year without notifying the public.

That’s why he’s asking the Utility Review Board to investigate Halifax Water and come up with ways for it to improve.

He says he hopes the investigation will set Halifax Water “on the road to providing a safe, responsive and reliable service.”
