Federation of Municipalities urges coordination with N.S. amid tariff concerns

The Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities (NSFM) is encouraged by the 30-day delay in tariffs, but are still concerned, as the threat remains.

The federation who represents 49 municipalities with over 370 municipally elected officials, says they stand with the province as they work to protect local economics, businesses and workers.

NSFM urges the federal government and Nova Scotia to continue urgent discussions on reducing trade barriers between provinces and to broaden the scope of who we trade with.

“Municipalities are at the heart of Nova Scotia’s economy, fostering growth, innovation, and job creation,” said NSFM President Pam Mood. “While we are encouraged by the 30-day delay in implementing these tariffs, the threat remains. Tariffs harm not only local businesses and supply chains but also the well-being of our communities. We are committed to working with the provincial government to ensure a unified response that safeguards our economic interests.”

NSFM says all levels of government must coordinate to mitigate the impact of trade disruptions.

The federation adds, they recognize how important it is to maintain strong cross-border relationships while advocating for Nova Scotia.
