Carney meets with Trudeau, Liberal caucus to discuss national security, U.S.-Canada relations

Mark Carney said his transition to Prime Minister will be seamless.

Carney won the Liberal Party leadership race by a landslide on the weekend.

He’ll soon replace Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister.

Carney said he had a long meeting with Trudeau and the Liberal caucus on Monday.

“There is tremendous energy in the Liberal caucus, as you saw (Sunday) evening, this is a united party with full of energy to serve Canadians,” said Carney.

Carney did not reveal when he would take over as Prime Minister, but he said the transition would be quick.

Parliament has been prorogued until March 24, and it’s possible Carney could call an election before then.
