A teenager was arrested after allegedly stealing a car and fleeing from police with cocaine inside the vehicle.
At about 8 a.m. on Thursday, RCMP got a call about a car driving erratically on Highway 101 near Windsor. Police say they found the car twice, once while it was driving on the highway and once while it was parked off the road, but the driver fled both times.
The license plate of the car, a 2004 Honda Accord, had previously been reported stolen.
At about 9 a.m., the Accord tried to pass another police officer on Highway 101, the release says. The officer turned on the flashing lights and tried to pull the car over to the side of the road. The suspect overtook the police car, the RCMP says, and hit the median concrete divider and guard rail in the middle of the road, and then hit the median a second time before the vehicle stopped.
Officers say the driver is a 17-year-old from Dartmouth and was arrested for dangerous driving. EHS assessed the youth’s injuries and then took the teen to a hospital for treatment.
When police searched the vehicle, they found “a quantity of cocaine” and a knife.
In addition to dangerous driving, the teen was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possessing cocaine for trafficking.
The RCMP says there were no other vehicles involved in the crash, but they appreciate the public’s cooperation while Highway 101 was down to one lane after the crash.
