Police seek suspect in hate crime after flags vandalized

The RCMP is investigating an alleged hate-motivated crime after a person vandalized a Pride Flag and an Every Child Matters flag near Ship Harbour.

Police say they got the call on Tuesday morning.

They say the flags were at the end of a driveway on West Ship Harbour Road and were vandalized some time the day before.

Police say they believe the mischief was motivated by hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

Officers are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect. They’re described as having grey hair, wearing a black jacket, black pants and grey shoes at the time of the incident.

They ask anyone with information on the suspect or the incident to call police at 902-490-5020.
