The chief of Halifax Police is thanking the province’s justice department for putting an extra incentive on finding the suspects involved in the Africville shooting.
Five young people were injured at the 41st Africville Reunion in July and the case has now been added to the province’s Major Unsolved Crimes Program.
There is a reward of up to $150,000 for any information leading to an arrest or conviction.
In a statement on social media Don MacLean says the Africville reunion was meant to be a place where people come together and celebrate their history, culture and community.
“For a select few to bring violence into that event, causing serious injury and trauma to those in attendance, is unacceptable. I thank [the justice department] for recognizing the importance of solving this case and adding it to the rewards program,” says MacLean.
According to the province, it is the first time a case has been added to the program that was not a homicide for suspicious missing person’s case.
