Police officer charged with Antigonish sex assault

A Pictou County police officer has been charged in relation to a sexual assault that happened nearly 20 years ago in Antigonish.

RCMP received a report in June 2024 that a woman was sexually assaulted by a man – when she was a youth- at a home in 2007.

The accused was an off-duty member of the Trenton Police Force at the time.

Now with the New Glasgow Regional Police, he was initially arrested in January and released pending further investigation.

RCMP charged the 38-year-old man with one count of sexual assault in April.

He is set to appear in Antigonish Provincial Court in May.

The investigation continues.
