Winds knock out power to thousands in N.S.

Some Nova Scotians may need to fire up their generators to cook Easter dinner with high winds knocking out power for many.

As of 4:00 p.m. Sunday, crews are working to restore electricity to more than 11,600 Nova Scotia Power customers. According to the utility’s outage map, most are effected in Bridgewater, Amherst, and Parrsboro.

In a social media post earlier on Sunday afternoon, NSP said, “With windy conditions expected across Nova Scotia today and overnight, our crews are prepared and positioned throughout the province.”

Wind warnings are in effect for northeastern parts of the province including areas of Cape Breton Sunday night. Northwesterly gusts could reach 90 km/h before diminishing Monday morning. In other areas of the province, winds could reach up to 70 km/hr.
