North Atlantic Right Whale detection off Shelburne County

A closure of fishing grounds off Shelburne County.

It’s due to the detection of North Atlantic Right Whales, according to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

There was an acoustic detection on May 19 in the Roseway Basin critical habitat area, about 20 nautical miles off Cape Sable Island.

The closure will begin on Sunday at 5 p.m. and last for 15 days.

DFO says the areas will re-open following two flights with no right whale detections.
