Mullen acclaimed for second term as NSGEU president

Sandra Mullen is still the president of the NSGEU.

She was acclaimed for the second time as part of the executive team representing over 38,000 workers in the province.

Mullen says a big topic at the recent convention was U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

“These tariffs are going to have impacts on our economy, communities and families. Much like COVID, we’re going into the unknown, and we’re not quite sure yet what this means for us,” said Mullen.

She says she’ll work to continue improving conditions for all workers.

A number of resolutions were passed, including cost-of-living allowance language at bargaining tables and support for those going through domestic violence.

“A lot of the resolutions were about how we prepare for bargaining going forward with inflationary pressures,” added Mullen.

Mullen is a licensing officer with the Department of Community Services in Yarmouth.

Hugh Gillis, a correctional officer, was re-elected as 1st Vice-President.
