The Lunenburg County Hikers have been recognized with Hike Nova Scotia’s highest honour — the Summit Award — for their outstanding contributions to the province’s hiking community.
The award was presented during the 2025 Hiking Summit, held in Bridgewater from May 30 to June 1.
The annual event brought together over 100 participants, including hikers, trail groups and outdoor enthusiasts from across Nova Scotia.
“The Summit Award is presented to an organization or individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to the growth and development of hiking in the province,” said Janet Barlow, executive director of Hike Nova Scotia. “The Lunenburg County Hikers have really popularized hiking and expanded the community of hikers in the area.”
Founded in 2019, the Lunenburg County Hikers organize two to four group hikes each month, exploring trails throughout the region.
Their outings often highlight the natural history of the area and emphasize safety, education, and fun.
The Hiking Summit also featured guided hikes, information sessions, and social events. It was co-hosted by Hike Nova Scotia and the Lunenburg County Hikers.
The 2026 Hiking Summit will be held in Digby, with the exact date and location to be announced.
