Halifax International Fleet Week begins Thursday

Our boardwalk and city streets will come alive for Halifax International Fleet Week.

It’s a celebration of our Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Armed Forces.

The official opening will be marked by the traditional ringing of the bell at Museum Wharf at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. It will be held inside the Museum of the Atlantic in the event of inclement weather.

Throughout the weekend, you can tour the ships and meet the crews.

Festivities through Sunday will also include pop-up concerts by the Stadacona Band, family events, military demonstrations, the Fleet Week Run, a rugby match, and the Navy Bike Ride.

There will also be a special drone light show over the harbour as a tribute to service and ancestral Mi’kmaw tradition on Saturday.

On a somber note, there will be a moment of reflection and remembrance at Sunday’s Last Post ceremony and unveiling of the reconstituted Last Steps Memorial with the Last Post Association from Ypres, Belgium.

Halifax’s first fleet week was in September of 2023.

It boasted 1,200 sailors from four countries and 100,000 visitors to the waterfront.
