We’re learning more details about a dog that was shot after stalking two canoers.
It happened around 1 p.m. on Saturday along the Musquodoboit River near Highway 357.
The RCMP tells our newsroom a pack of three dogs followed two people in a canoe for “multiple kilometres.”
Parts of the river are shallow, and the dogs travelled both in the water and on shore.
When an officer got to the scene, the canoers and dogs were on the river near the 6400 block of Highway 357. The officer tried to scare off the animals with noise and by screaming.
But the officer decided the dogs were an imminent threat. Police say the officer shot one of the dogs, firing the gun “within proximity of one of the canoers.”
