Toy drive in Antigonish honouring missing Guysborough Co. boy

A toy drive is on in memory of a missing child from Guysborough County who had a heart of gold.

Four-year-old Oakley went missing when he fell into the water in Cooks Cove while fishing with his family on Easter weekend in April.

Toys are being collected for the IWK and Ronald McDonald House to honour the little boy who would’ve turned 5 on July 20th.

His mother, Macy Delorey, told our newsroom this is a perfect way of giving back, adding that he loved the toys he received when he spent time at the children’s hospital.

On Sunday, Legacy of Oakley hosted a pop-up toy drive outside the Antigonish Superstore and successfully filled two large tote boxes, according to their Facebook page.

The group will be set up outside the grocery store again Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. They’ve also created an Amazon wish list.

Donations will be dropped off at the IWK on July 22nd.

The drive will happen each year on Oakley’s birthday.
