Man pleads guilty after crash that killed Moncton woman

A man has pleaded guilty to his role in a hit and run that killed a woman from Moncton, N.B.

On January 27th, Deepak Sharma, 32, was driving on Jubilee Road in Halifax when he hit a car.

According to multiple reports, he got out for a second to check on the driver before he got back into the vehicle and sped off at 126 km/h where the speed limit is 50.

That’s when he hit 21-year-old Alexandria Wortman in a marked crosswalk.

She was on the hood of his car until a third collision stopped him.

He pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and criminal negligence causing death.

Wortman was a Dalhousie University student. She was born in Moncton, N.B., and graduated from Riverview High School, near Moncton, in 2021.
