Here’s something that really caught my attention and I’m curious how you feel about it. As the cost of living keeps climbing across Canada, Dollarama’s sales have jumped more than 20 percent compared to this time last year. They brought in about $1.9 billion in one quarter, added new stores here in Canada and even expanded into Australia.
Experts say it’s not just about cheap decorations or random stuff anymore; people are going there for everyday basics. Things like food items, shampoo, soap, canned goods, what economists call “consumables.”
At the same time, some of the big traditional grocery chains are seeing profits dip, even though food sales are still up. And more Canadians are doing that store-hopping thing, grabbing fresh items at the grocery store, then heading somewhere like Dollarama for shelf-stable basics to save a few bucks. How do you feel about this? Have higher prices changed where you by everyday stuff?
