Today is closely tied to one of the most famous moments in advertising history, Apple’s “1984” Super Bowl commercial. Directed by Ridley Scott, it didn’t show product specs, pricing, or even how the computer worked. Instead, it told a story about rebellion and creativity, positioning the Macintosh as a tool for individuals, not corporations. Just days later, the Mac went on sale and helped change how people thought about personal computers. From that moment on, tech wasn’t marketed as machinery, it was marketed as identity. Even today, when companies tease products with cinematic trailers and emotional storytelling, they’re following a blueprint Apple helped write back in 1984.
