Man charged for vehicle theft and ramming police car in Shelburne Co.

Shelburne RCMP have charged a man with multiple offences including vehicle theft and fleeing police.

Police responded to a report of an ATV, trailer and firewood stolen from a Jordan Falls yard on Thursday morning.

Officers found the ATV on Jordan Branch Road, but the male driver and female passenger ran away after the machine got stuck off a trail.

Mounties were able to safely arrest the woman.

That evening investigators located the suspect in a stolen pickup truck in Shelburne in a King Street parking lot. RCMP say he rammed a police vehicle twice and a parked car before driving away. No injuries were reported.

After reports of sightings, police, with the help of dogs and aircraft, later found the man on foot in the Jordan Branch Road area and arrested him.

The 34-year-old Jordan Falls man appeared in court Friday and remains in custody, pending future court dates.

The 29-year-old Shelburne County woman was released and will appear in court Wednesday.

Police say the two were also each issued summary offence tickets for violating the provincial restrictions related to travel and activities in the woods.
