How a scallop fishing boat caught on fire off the coast of Shelburne

A new report reveals how a scallop fishing boat that caught on fire near Shelburne.

The investigation found the fire was caused by a crack in the generator exhaust silencer, a piece of equipment that muffles the sound of the engine.

Twelve crew members were on board the Fundy Leader when the master noticed smoke near some electrical panel vents.

They shut off the engine and noticed smoke coming from a wall.

They broke the handle of two fire axes as they tried to make a hole to fight the fire.

The crew put it out once before it reignited, but they managed to put it out again.

The ship was guided back to shore by another boat.
