New childcare centre for Acadia University

Families in Wolfville will have a new childcare option.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has announced plans to build a new 104-space early learning and child-care centre on the Acadia University campus.

It will offer spaces and programs for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.

In a release, Brendan Maguire, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, says “Our government is collaborating with partners like Acadia, so that finding childcare is not a barrier for Nova Scotian families to work.”

University president Jeff Hennessy says, “Adding this facility to our campus, being able to respond to the needs of our families and students and community, is a significant milestone for Acadia and Wolfville. And, of course, the biggest beneficiaries of the new childcare centre are going to be the children who get to attend. We’re most excited for them!”

The new centre is part of efforts to expand access to childcare, supported through the Canada-Nova Scotia Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement.

Nova Scotia has signed a five-year extension to the agreements until March 31, 2031.

According to the provincial government, more than 7,300 new childcare spaces have been announced across Nova Scotia since 2021.
