Toronto man arrested on drifting boat off Nova Scotia coast

A 31-year-old man from Toronto was arrested while floating on a boat off the coast of Nova Scotia.

RCMP got a call on Sept. 23 about a boat taken from a marina in D’Escousse, Cape Breton, according to a news release.

Video footage shows a man driving a truck, which was reported stolen in Alberta in July, to the marina before stealing the boat.

Officers found the boat five days later near the French islands on the southern coast of Newfoundland.

Multiple police agencies made a plan to try and contact the boat.

On Sept. 30 officers boarded the boat near Sable Island and found the suspect inside.

He was arrested and faces theft charges. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
