Child dies in crash along Highway 104 in Antigonish County

A child is dead after a crash on Highway 104 in Antigonish County on Saturday night.

The RCMP says it happened around 9:50 p.m. near Dagger Woods Road and Pomquet Monks Head Road.

When police got to the scene, they learned a car had hit a large farm or construction vehicle, according to a news release from police.

All four passengers were taken to a hospital by EHS. One passenger was a child who was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other vehicle fled the scene, and officers later found it and seized it for investigation.

A collision reconstructionist was on the scene, and the road was closed for several hours. The Medical Examiner Service is helping with the ongoing investigation.

RCMP ask anyone who traveled along that stretch of Highway 104 to reach out if they may have seen either of the vehicles involved. You can contact Antigonish RCMP at 902-863-6500.
