A local NHL star was honoured in the House of Commons this week after doing a personal favour for a friend going through an extremely difficult time.
Brad Marchand came back home to Halifax to coach a hockey team after the owner’s 10-year-old daughter Selah Panacci-MacCallum died last Friday after a battle with cancer.
MP Darren Fisher said it showed what real heart and real friendship look like.
“In the middle of his NHL season, Brad came home to stand behind the bench for his life-long friend, JP McCollum, head coach of Dartmouth’s U18 major hockey team, who’s facing every parent’s worst heartbreak,” said Fisher. “More than 1,000 people filled the Halifax Forum to lift that family up.”
He added, there were back sales and jersey auctions while the whole community came together to show “the love and support that defines Nova Scotia and Nova Scotians.”
During the game with Dallas, Saturday night, Marchand paid tribute to Selah after scoring a goal; pointing a finger in the air and pointing to the sky.
“I want to send all the love in the world to JP, his loved ones…the team,” said Fisher. “I want to thank Brad Marchand for reminding us, true greatness isn’t measured just in goals, but in heart.”
