Woman charged for speeding at more than double limit in Halifax: police

Halifax police have charged a man for stunting after allegedly speeding at more than double the legal speed on Monday morning.

At around 9:25 a.m., police saw the car driving inbound on Highway 102 toward Bayers Road and clocked her vehicle travelling 112 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

The driver, a 59-year-old woman, was ticketed for stunting, according to a news release from Halifax Regional Police.

That charge is automatically laid when an officer spots a vehicle travelling more than 50 km/h over the limit. In Nova Scotia, that fine is $2,422.50 and six points on the driver’s record.

Her license was also suspended for a week and the vehicle was seized.

She got several other tickets as well, including:

  • driving without insurance, with a fine of $1272.50
  • failing to pass on the left of a vehicle, with a fine of $295
  • not having a clearly visible license plate, with a fine of $237.50

Police say everyone has a role to play in keeping roads safe and they regularly enforce speeding and traffic laws.
