Crews extinguish fire at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax

A fire is out at Scotiabank Centre in downtown Halifax.

Halifax firefighters were called to the arena over the noon hour Thursday.

The fire was on the roof of a corner of the building on Duke and Brunswick, and appeared to damage a video screen.

Brad Connors, district chief of operations for Halifax Fire says they acted quickly.

“Crews arrived very fast and got a line on the fire from the exterior, they did a very quick job to knock the fire down. We are also checking for extensions to make sure the fire didn’t get anywhere else in the building,” said Connors.

The fire did extend a bit into the building but there was minimal damage.

In a social media post, the Scotiabank Centre says it was related to work happening on the exterior of the building, the venue was evacuated and no one was injured.

They say they’re working to assess the damage and any changes to their event schedule will be communicated.

Police were also on scene assisting firefighters, and were asking people to avoid the area.
