New live burn trailers will have major impact, says Cape Breton fire chief

New live burn trailers will have a major impact on firefighter training across the province.

That is according to Cape Breton Fire Chief, Mark Bettens.

He says some places in the province have never had live burn training, but this will bring it straight to them.

“It’s a great investment. We’re really appreciative of what the province has done,” said Bettens.

Some were relying on the provincial fire school for live burns, but the government cut ties with it in August over safety concerns.

Cape Breton Regional Fire Service is managing the two new mobile burn trailers. That department already had one trailer, and because they had crew members trained to use it, Bettens says they were able to help.
