An Acadian is the focus of Heritage Day in Nova Scotia this year.
This holiday Monday is in recognition of Joseph Willie Comeau of Clare, Digby County.
Comeau was elected in 1907 in the legislature to represent Acadian communities and culture.
He was elected nine times, then appointed to the Senate in 1948.
Comeau served there until his death in 1966 at age 89.
He was a teacher and father of 16 children.
In Church Point next Saturday the 21st, a community celebration in honour of Comeau’s life will take place, along with a short documentary screening about his life.
The province’s Acadian Affairs minister Colton LeBlanc says Comeau made a remarkable impact, and Clare can take pride in the legacy he left.
Heritage Day has been celebrated in Nova Scotia since 2015, each year an historical figure is honoured.
