Robert Duvall dead at 95

A major Hollywood icon has passed away.

Actor and Director Robert Duvall died peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort, according to a social media post from his wife Luciana, “To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all.”

Duvall won an Oscar for his role as an alcoholic country singer in Tender Mercies in 1983.

He is also a seven-time Academy Award nominee, for films including The Godfather, The Great Santini and Apocalypse Now.

Duvall was also an Emmy winner, amongst others.

Other films include Jack Reacher, Civil Action, Days of Thunder, and The Judge.

Duvall was 95 years old.
