33 Years Since The École Polytechnique Massacre

It’s been 33 years since 14 women were gunned down at École Polytechnique in Montreal.

The day has been noted as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada since 1991.

It’s used to honour the people who have suffered or sadly lost their lives to gender-based violence.

These are the names of the 14 victims of the attack:

  • Geneviève Bergeron;
  • Hélène Colgan;
  • Nathalie Croteau;
  • Barbara Daigneault;
  • Anne-Marie Edward;
  • Maud Haviernick;
  • Barbara Klucznik Widajewicz;
  • Maryse Laganière;
  • Maryse Leclair;
  • Anne-Marie Lemay;
  • Sonia Pelletier;
  • Michèle Richard;
  • Annie St-Arneault; and
  • Annie Turcotte.
