Correctional Services Nova Scotia has confirmed that an inmate has died at the Cape Breton Correctional Facility.
The individual was found to be unresponsive on the morning of January 28th.
Staff immediately began the emergency response procedure and contacted emergency health services.
The inmate was transported to the hospital and died later that morning.
Any death in custody will be referred to the local police agency for investigation.
Correctional services would like to send condolences to the victims’ friends and family.
