24 year-old dies after canoe capsizes

Queens District RCMP is investigating after the sudden death of a man at Annis Lake, near the community of Labelle.

Just before 3 p.m., officers responded to Annis Lake for a report of a man who had gone under the water and had not yet surfaced.

Attempts to reach the man by others had been unsuccessful.

Through the investigation, police learned that two men had been out on the lake in a canoe when the canoe flipped over.

One of the men was able to swim to shore, but the other went under the water and did not surface.

The victim, a 24-year-old man from Bridgewater, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team assisted in retrieving the man’s body.

At this time, the death is not considered to be suspicious, however the investigation is continuing.
