There was a celebratory feeling in the air Thursday evening as the three newest inductees were added to the Olympic Wall at the Emera Centre in the Region of Queens.
In a news release, the municipality says the announcement was made by Mayor Scott Christian and two-time Olympian and two-time competitor at the pan American Games, Lisa Ross, as well as Mike Green with Special Olympics Nova Scotia.
They are:
- Rebecca Delaney and Jillian Young – two gold medalists in snowshoeing at the 2025 World Special Olympic Games in Turn, Italy
- Susan Inglis – a snowshoeing coach in the 2025 World Special Olympic Games for the national team
Christian congratulated the three, as well as Sarah Mitton who has now competed at two Olympic Games.
“Council and our community are very proud of the inductees and have been proud to cheer them all on as they made their way to compete internally,” said Christian. “The Olympic Wall at Queens Place is a very visible display of the outstanding, world class achievements of our community members who represent Canada in Olympic, World Paralympic and World Special Olympic Games.”
“These athletes, coaches and officials are role models and an inspiration to all. They show that with hard work and setting a goal, it is possible to go the distance and compete with the top athletes from across the world.”
The wall was created in 2022 as a space to recognize the accomplishments of high-performance athletes, coaches and officials from the community who have participated in World Olympic, World Paralympic and World Special Olympic Games.
There are now 12 on the wall:
