Pride flag burned at Bayview High School

A school community in Nova Scotia is coming together after a pride flag was set on fire.

According to Global news, it happened Friday afternoon at Bayview High School about 30km west of Halifax in Upper Tantallon. Students from Beechville, Lakeside, Timberlea and a number of communities along Peggy’s Cove Rd also attend the school.

Police were called around 2:45pm when the flag had been taken down from the cafeteria and brought outside and burned.

In an email to families affected, Principal Dunovan Kalberlah says a member of HRCE’s diversity team is at the school this week to support staff and students.

Many wore rainbow colors to the school Monday to show they are accepting.

RCMP say the incident was hate motivated and charges may be filed soon.
