According to a survey done through the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union, 87% of teachers in the province think violence in schools is getting worse.
While, over 90% say they have witnessed it firsthand with 55% saying they have been a victim themselves.
They’ve been threatened, kicked, bit and punched as well as verbally abused.
NSTU President Ryan Lutes says it’s becoming more frequent and more severe and are often unaddressed.
The province says there were over 13,700 incidents of violence in schools just last year. The union is willing to work with the government in order to address these issues and improve school safety.
