ECBL cancels Championship Tournament

The Eastern Canadian Basketball League has now cancelled its end-of-the-year Championship Tournament.

This comes just days after it cut short its regular season short due to revenue issues.

In a news release, CEO and Founder Ravi Verma apologized to players, administrators, fans, sponsors and volunteers.

“We take responsibility for the disappointing outcome of our inaugural season and we are determined to fix our mistakes and give the Maritimes a professional basketball league that they
deserve,” Verma said.

The news release also states cancellations were a part of a comprehensive restructuring plan to restore the league in 2024.

The ECBL launched in April with six teams, the Saint John Union, Moncton Motion, Truro Tide, Bathurst Bears, Charlottetown Power and Valley Vipers, all based in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI.
