Halifax names interim police chief

Halifax has a new police chief on an interim basis.

City council voted to give the job to Don MacLean, who serves as the Deputy Chief of Operations for the force and will take over the role on September 16 following the retirement of Dan Kinsella.

MacLean began his policing career in 1993.

Since 2020, he has held the position of Deputy Chief of Operations, overseeing both the patrol and criminal investigation divisions.

The city will begin the search for the next police chief this fall.
