Disability-rights advocate, Jen Powley dead at 45

A well-known Nova Scotia disability-rights advocate, environmentalist and author has passed away.

According to multiple reports, Jen Powley died in hospital Sunday due to complications from advanced multiple sclerosis. She was 45.

Powley, who was a quadriplegic, advocated for people with severe disabilities to live independantly rather than in nursing homes.

Powley also worked for the Ecology Action Centre for a number of years and ran for Halifax regional council in 2020.
