A well-known Nova Scotia disability-rights advocate, environmentalist and author has passed away.
According to multiple reports, Jen Powley died in hospital Sunday due to complications from advanced multiple sclerosis. She was 45.
Powley, who was a quadriplegic, advocated for people with severe disabilities to live independantly rather than in nursing homes.
Powley also worked for the Ecology Action Centre for a number of years and ran for Halifax regional council in 2020.
Jen Powley has passed away. She was a tenacious champion for people with disabilities and others whose voice was seldom heard. She proved many times that the loudest voice is not the most powerful voice. She will be greatly missed. She made a difference. pic.twitter.com/1SDvrnhX6j
