Casino N.S. renames venue to honour late Bruce Guthro

Casino Nova Scotia is renaming its live entertainment venue to pay tribute to its long friendship with Cape Breton’s late Bruce Guthro.

The Schooner Showroom, where he hosted many Songwriters’ Circles, is now called the Bruce Guthro Theatre.

Meanwhile, his musical legacy lives on as his children, Jodi and Dylan Guthro, host three Songwriters’ Circles at Casino Nova Scotia this month.

As well, the solo artist and former frontman for the Scottish rock band Runrig, was posthumously appointed to the Order of Nova Scotia last month.

His wife Kim Guthro accepted the prestigious award on his behalf in Halifax.

The award-winning singer-songwriter died of cancer at age 62 in September.
