59-year-old killed after tense stand-off with police in Dartmouth

A 59-year-old man is dead after he was shot by an officer with Halifax Police.

It happened at a home on Carleton Street in Dartmouth at about 8:30 p.m.

Initially police were responding to calls the man had a gun.

Police were trying to arrest him when he confronted them with a weapon and was shot by an officer.

The incident is now being handled by SIRT, the agency that investigates serious matters involving police.
