Want a Bus System For Lunenburg County?

An advocacy group continues to explore the need for public transit in Lunenburg County.

Citizens for Public Transit received $30,000 from the province to conduct a market survey and feasibility study.

The group’s first focus group meeting was held in Lunenburg and two more are planned Wednesday.

The CPT’s chair, Stewart Franck, says CBCL Limited will help run the sessions.

“They will put people to work and roll up their sleeves and look at some of the transportation options. People will be looking at how they might use public transit, where, and look at possible routes.”

Franck says they are trying to determine if there is interest in a transit system for areas like Lunenburg, New Germany, Riverport and Mahone Bay.

“Would people use it? If there is a system or systems, what would it or they look like? How would they be operated? Who would operate it? How would it be funded?”

A bus service has been operating in Bridgewater since the fall of 2017.

Tomorrow’s meetings will be held from 2-4 p.m at the Mahone Bay Centre and 6 until 8 p.m at the LaHave Bakery.
