From marathon watcher to winner – it sounds simple for Cal DeWolfe of Conquerall Mills.
But, the 24 year-old says it was anything but easy after finishing first in Sunday’s Blue Nose Marathon with a time of 2:34:52.
DeWolfe spent 2018 watching the popular HRM event and chose to run this year to get a qualifying time for the 2020 Boston Marathon, a feat he accomplished by crossing the finish line in under three hours.
He says it was an exciting event to run for the first time.
“There was a band at one point on the course playing music. There were people lined up all along the North End out of their houses, some had an air horn and cheering on runners. It was an incredible atmosphere.”
DeWolfe ran cross-country while attending St. FX during his undergraduate years and has since moved back to Halifax to study law at Dalhousie.
He says the Boston Marathon has always been on his radar.
“It’s an event that you need a qualifying time to participate in. I figured that I had to run a marathon at some point between a certain window of the spring and into late summer and the Blue Nose was a great chance.”
DeWolfe’s time is the third fastest in Blue Nose Marathon history.
