Lunenburg Dory Racers Defeated By Americans in Gloucester

Dory racers from Lunenburg didn’t get the results they wanted over the weekend against their American counterparts.

The U.S. won three of the four competitions during the first leg of the International Dory Races in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Robert Fox and Lisa Tanner picked up the lone victory in the mixed division.

Fox, the President of the Canadian Dory Racing Association, says things were close between the two sides.

“With three seconds in between finishes in most of the races, that’s very good races. But, the over-50, the women’s and the men’s came up short just a little bit and now it’s back to training.”

Fox says they will need to train harder to beat the U.S.

“They have a lot of rowers down there and they have a lot of dedicated rowers that train hard all the time so they’re working very hard to be that competitive against us.”

Local rowers will be out for redemption in the second leg of the International Dory Races.

That event will be held August 17 in Lunenburg Harbour.

Qualifying races for that event occur roughly two weeks earlier on August 4.
