Perhaps the biggest savings you can make for back to school would be for a tablet or laptop computer. Check Amazon’s prices, then check ca.camelcamelcamel.com (the Canadian version) which tracks the prices of everything that’s ever been on Amazon. That way you know if you’re getting a deal on that expensive tech!
One of the other important things you can do is perform a “supply sweep”. What’s that you ask? It’s scouring the house for things that you already have – check those desk drawers, the closets, the plastic bins in the basement or the attic for those items which might be appropriate and then put them all together in one spot so you can survey what you already have. Don’t forget to include the home office in that search! Then make a list of what you already have before you head out shopping. But before you do, give your friends your list so they can see if a trade is possible. For example, you might have picked up a huge box of paper the previous year that you’ll never go through, so you could trade some of that paper for an extra pencil or pen set they might not need this year.
Put off new clothes shopping for another week – experts say that retailers discount clothes even further when we get into September.
Check the dollar stores for school supplies.
Check the used clothing stores first before buying new. Remember a large portion of clothing still has tags on it in the used clothing stores.
