New Canteen Management Bringing In a Different Taste

Something new is cooking at the Queens Emera Place Centre’s Canteen.

A Taste of Saffron has moved into the canteen to serve up traditional favourites along side home cooked Indian dishes for hockey games and other centre events.

Angela Ahmad, owner of A Taste of Saffron, was approved to run the canteen until April 2020 after submitting a proposal to the Region of Queens.

David Dagley, mayor, says the hunt for a new canteen operator was not an easy one.

“We had certainly been looking for an operator for our canteen at Queens Place Emera Centre for a number of months now,” he said.

“We put out requests for proposals several times and were having difficulty getting applications.”

Dagley says Ahmad approached the council with the proposal, which was well received, and council approved it quickly.

“She has a good reputation in the community and in food preparation,” he said.

“Shes been doing some work on her own and selling. She will be a very good operator for the canteen and we are very pleased.”

Ahmad took over control of the Canteen on Oct. 12, and A Taste of Saffron is now available during regular hours at the canteen.
