Your Pet’s Moments Of Brilliance

Even though your pet probably acts like a goofy, derpy fool most of the time, is there the odd moment when they show signs of brilliance? A recent news story about a cat named Quilty causing chaos in a Houston Animal Shelter got me thinking about that. Quilty’s owner passed away, and his best friend , a dog was adopted by a family who had another dog that didn’t like cats. So Quilty was put in this beautiful animal shelter where they don’t cage the cats, they put them in free roam rooms with other similar cats. There was a room for senior cats, another one for younger more rowdy cats and so on. The only trouble is that they didn’t know about Quilty’s past. He’d break his dog friend out of his crate or out of his bedroom because he learned to open things like latches and doorknobs! So every morning the staff would come in to find all the doors to the cat rooms open and cats wandering the entire Animal Hospital! They had to “Quilty-proof” all the doors and windows in the building!

My wife Karen and I have had to do something similar here. During the warmer months we like to keep the French doors open with a sliding screen door to keep the cats in. But our boy Lazarus figured out how to slide the screen door open and get out. So we bought a hook and eyelet latch and put that on the sliding door. He figured that one out as well. So for this past summer, I had the slider door latch, a hook and eyelet, and every day I would duct tape the door closed. So far he hasn’t succeeded in removing all the duct tape to make his getaway. But it’s costing me a fortune in duct tape! Thank goodness the cooler weather is here and the doors stay closed!

So tell me about your pet’s intelligent moves!
