Last week during the early morning stormy weather on Tuesday I had a sinking feeling when I looked at my dashboard. There was a lit icon in yellow telling me that I didn’t have anti-skid on. Roads were super slippery that morning and anti-skid would have come in handy. But the bigger thing on my radar was the money I would have to spend to get it fixed. Brakes and electronic extras are never a cheap repair, are they? And I was a little gun shy after owning a previous car that became unfixable because of electronic problems.
I won’t say the brand, but it’s the last used vehicle I bought before going new. And it’s the reason I came back to buying new. This car developed some type of short in the electrical system and we could not figure out what the problem was. Sometimes you would get in, put the key in the ignition and the trunk would open but the car would not start. Other times the windshield wipers would come on and still no start. The check engine light came on and stayed on (most of the time) but mechanics checked the engine and said there was nothing wrong with it and would reset the light, but a few days later it would come on again… usually on wet days. Finally, at the end of my wits, I took the car to the dealer and they hooked it up to their diagnostics but had to tell me that they couldn’t help me because… they couldn’t get any sort of reading from the diagnostics equipment.
So I ended up selling the car at a fraction of it’s value and buying new.
Oh! And that antiskid off light I saw last week on my dashboard? It turns out that in the dark while looking to dim my dash lights I must have hit the button that turns it off. I turned it back on later that day in the daylight.
