Can I Get A Drink Over Here?

Many of us will be opting for a real tree this year. I know, some have reasons not to, and that’s fine. But for those who go the real tree route, how do you keep it fresh?

The interwebs are full of hints and ideas. Most of them make sense. Like keeping your tree away from heat. Not setting the tree up right next to the fireplace does seem like a good idea.

But what do you feed it? I mean, this is kind of a wild creature you have just brought into your home. What does it eat?

Again… lots of ideas. Some people say add sugar to water. Some say to add corn syrup to your water. Still others say to add a clear pop, like Sprite or Seven Up. You’ll have to ask your tree which it prefers. Although with I do have a bit of concern that all of this could cause the tree to pack on a few pounds over the season.

There has been a fair amount of research done on this topic. The result seems to indicate that just plain ol’ water is best. Most additives like sugar, aspirin or anything else don’t seem to do a whole lot, but they don’t cause a major amount of harm either. The big thing is, keep your tree hydrated. At least they don’t need ice with that.
